Portland Oregon is known for music. It's a classic must stop for tons of bands as they make their west coast tours. Many people think of Seattle and Sanfrancisco as huge music cities. Well, don't count out Portland. Portland has many small venues in it's down town district that play host to all sorts of acts. It also plays host to the big time productions at the Rose Garden which also doubles as the home of the Portland Trailblazers. As an added bonus to the citizens of Portland, the old basketball standium was left standing allowing two big shows to take place in one night. Or if need be, a basketball game and a show.
If you are a fan of Outdoor music then there is easy access to the Amphitheater at Clark County. This outdoor venue is a short twenty minute commute from downtown Portland and can easily hold fifteen thousand fans. Unfortunaly due to the extremely rainy client in Portland the venue is only in use during summer months. The main complaint about this venue is parking. People often complain that it takes up to two hours to exit the venue and head home. There are other smaller outdoor venues scattered all over the Portland area. In fact, on most summer nights you can find music in one of many neighbor hood parks.
Portland is not new to the music scene. The truth is that Portland has quite a history of music even though it might be easily overlooked by Seattle or other major cities in California. , The Kingsmen best known for their 1960s rock classic "Louie, Louie", were originally from Portland, and Paul Revere & the Raiders gained popularity in Portland after relocating there from Idaho.
Do any of you hippies remember the band Seafood Mama. They were a rock band from the 70s. The lead singer for this famous Portland band was Rindy Ross, with a substantial local following that tried for national success.
Portland also played an very important role in the grunge movement which only was topped by Seattle. In recent times Portland plays home to many up and coming Indie bands. Portland Oregon also is home of a number of sound companies that play a big role in the music business.
